O Ensemble Alpha, sediado em Lisboa, especializa-se nos contrastes e ligações entre várias tradições medievais de música sacra, com ênfase especial nas de países ortodoxos e da Península Ibérica, e com uma abordagem fortemente influenciada por diversas tradições populares. Os vários membros colaboram trazando as suas próprias experiências diversas e especializadas aos projectos do grupo. Ivan Moody, o director musicológico do Ensemble Alpha, é protopsaltis da Igreja Ortodoxa Grega em Lisboa.

Em Julho de 1996 o grupo deu dois concertos, com êxito enorme, na Sardenha, para celebrar a inauguração da igreja mais antiga da ilha, recentemente restaurada, e desde então tem dado uma série de concertos em todo Portugal, concentrando-se em temas específicas, tais como Natal, Páscoa e a devoção à Virgem Maria.

O Ensemble Alpha actuou várias vezes na RTP, em programas como "Acontece", no contexto do colóquio international "Cister", e "Caminhos", e ainda em transmissoes radiofonicas em Portugal, Italia e nos EUA.

Outros projectos incluíram um concerto para coincidir com a exposição em Lisboa da famosa colecção de ícones Vemizelis, do Museu Benaki em Atenas, mais concertos em Itália e uma série de concertos, entusiasticamente recebidos, para a prestigiada Cambridge Early Music Society em Boston, EUA. No verão de 2002 o ensemble fez uma tournée em França e Itália, participando em prestigiados festivais como o Festival Guil-Durance e o Festival de Música Antiga a Magnano, com êxito enorme. O Ensemble Alpha em breve lançará um CD, e esta neste momento a planear um segundo, dedicado ao repertório de Advento e Natal.

No ano 2003 o Ensemble Alpha fez uma terceira tournée na Sardenha no âmbito do festival Echi lontani, além de concertos em Savigliano e Saluzzo em Maio. Em 2005 lançou um CD intitulado O Divina Virgo para a etiqueta Dialogos, e participou no Festival de Música Antiga da ilha de Pantelleria. Projectos futuros incluem um convite para voltar aos EUA para mais uma série de concertos e uma colaboração com as cantoras Daniela Tosic e Cristi Catt (do prestigiado grupo Tapestry).

Ensemble Alpha, based in Lisbon, Portugal, specializes in the contrasts and connections between various mediaeval traditions of sacred music, with a special concentration on the music of Orthodox countries and the Iberian Peninsula, and employing an approach strongly influenced by folk traditions. The various members of the group collaborate by bringing their own diverse and specialized experiences to the group. Ivan Moody, Ensemble Alpha's musicological director, is protopsaltis of the Greek Orthodox Church in Lisbon.

In July 1996, the groups gave two concerts, with enormous success, in Sardinia, to celebrate the inauguration of the oldest church on the island, newly restored, and subsequently gave a series of concerts throughout Portugal, centred on specific themes, such as the Nativity, Easter and devotion to the Virgin Mary.

Ensemble Alpha has appeared several times on Portuguese television (RTP) on such programmes as "Acontece", during the International "Cister" Colloquium, and "Caminhos", and has also given radio broadcasts in Portugal, Italy and the USA.

Other projects have included a concert to coincide with the exhibition in Lisbon of the famous Vemizelis collections of icons, from the Benaki Museum in Athens, further concerts in Italy, and a series of enthusiastically-received concerts for the prestigious Cambridge Early Music Society in Boston, USA. In the summer of 2002 the ensemble toured France and Italy, appearing in such prestigious festivals as the Guil-Durance Festival and the Festival di Musica Antica, Magnano, with tremendous success. Ensemble Alpha will shortly release a CD, and is currently planning a second, devoted to Advent and Christmas repertoire.

In 2003, the Ensemble Alpha undertook a third tour of Sardinia as part of the Echi lontani Festival, as well as two concerts in Savigliano e Saluzzo in May. In 2005 the group launched a CD entitled O Divina Virgo for the Dialogos label, and took part in the Early Music Festival on the island of Pantelleria. Future projects include invitations to return to the USA for a further concert series and a collaboration with the singers Daniela Tosic and Cristi Catt (of the renowned ensemble Tapestry).
